I’m kinda liking this ‘review’ stuff
Sometime this year or late last, we did an Arete for a customer in the US called Andrew.B.. Without him knowing we kinda experimented on him a bit and trialled some ideas for the 2009 Arete (Sorry Andrew!) Actually I exaggerate because he knew exactly what he was getting, but I guess he didn’t know he was getting a 2009 model in 2008!
Recently I re-stumbled upon his blog, and he has some nice words to say about his Thylacine (Good taste - Team Orange!) and seeing as I’m in a self-congratulatory mood (Actually I just need a pick-me-up) I thought I’d post some of his words here.
“….I love my Thy”
“The process was painless to the point of being pleasurable. I put myself in Warwick’s hands, made one suggestion (higher bottom bracket) and I got my bike, a little behind schedule, but my massive chain stays were the end result of the delay, so everything turned out all rosy.”
“I love the handling, stiffness, compliance, and fit.”
“Predictable and forgiving is how I’d describe the geometry if you put a bike crank to my neck. For someone with a vested interest in not riding into any more trees this is a good thing. I’m very happy with the bike. Custom is sweet, and I’d recommend Warwick to anyone who’s had a taste of “conventional” 29er geometry and isn’t satisfied.”
Them yar is some nice words, so thanks Andrew and I’m super-stoked you’re enjoying your bike!
So if you’re wondering what the 09 Arete looks like, it looks like this (Minus the shaped top tube which we’ve sub’d for round because it looks out of place)

I second those words. My first Thylacine was Warwick’s own Arete Sc 26er which he parted with earlier this year - I absolutely love it! Stiff, precise and enormous fun to ride.
So much so that I wanted another Thylacine, this time a 29er custom designed for me and I’m going through that process now. Warwick is excellent to work with, handling my seemingly endless and naive questions with aplomb. I can’t wait until the new bike arrives, it is going to be awesome!!!
