Just a quick update

There’s a couple of changes happening for 2008 that we should let the masses know about before we spring them on you.

The first one is a general price rise of about 5% accross the board. Reason for this is the spiraling freight costs, especially internationally, so this will effect customers in Europe more than anyone. It would be nice if we could continue to absorb cost increases in our margins, but that’s not possible anymore. Sucks I know, but the more corners you cut, the crapper everyone feels, and our workload increases, and shipping bikes then becomes an enormous pain, and we don’t want that.

The second one is that we’re adding more fork options in both road and MTB for next year. We’re currently trialing a very nice road fork from a company called Edge Composites which weighs in at 330g with an uncut steerer, which is pretty crazy. It’s carbon all the way, including the dropouts, so it will be a perfect companion piece to our Tephras, especially the new Tephra CTi.

The other new fork is a segmented style MTB fork, in steel. These are being built for us in the US so will have a price of about USD395 plus shipping. We’re playing around with leg configurations because the ‘perfect’ leg doesn’t really exist and we’re not really in the mood to sink a grand into something we’ll sell 10 of in a year, but we think we’ve come up with a nice spec that should be robust and very sweet looking. They’re essentially custom, so Axle-To-Crown and Rake is fully variable.

Okay, that’s about it for now. Oh wait, not it’s not! There’s new team jerseys and a new top tube decal for any frame ordered after January 1st. The jerseys should be ready in January, and the decals in the next couple of weeks.

With the jerseys, we’re doing them mostly for our race team and for our Enduro honch in the US, Rich Dillen, so they’re only going to be available to Average Joes like you and me in very limited numbers. Below is what they’re going to look like, and as a bonus for anyone that pre-orders, you can also order any other style of garment you like with the same design - sleeveless jerseys, shorts, windproof jackets, armwarmers - pretty much anything. Drop us an email at info@thylacinecycles.com for more info.

Tephra CTi Spy Shots

This week the belt buckle camera was put to good use as we snapped a couple of very grainy shots of the new 2008 Tephra CTi mid-build. Still waiting for the correct freehub body to be shipped from Reynolds, but then it will be all rock’n'roll.

Get Rooted and Conked-out outdoors

And we’re off! The inaugural 2007 La Ruta de los Conquistadores has started and cyclingnews has it’s usual “let’s only mention the top 5 riders” write-up. I won’t reguritate their pap - you know where it is - but seeing he’s not here to tell yas and I doubt that after riding for 7 hours he’d be too keen to go find an internet cafe in the middle of el vagabundo jode en ningún lugar (Warning : Spanglish), here’s Rich’s result today and a picture of his smiling mug.

34. Rich Dillen / Masters A / 07:35:44 / 01:21:59

Don’t tell him, but he got chicked by the top three chicks. I’m sure he’s gutted but after a couple of cervezas and some bum salve, probably wont give a rat’s.

More info as it comes to hand.

Day 2, and Rich looks as though he’s pulled out another consistant day, picking up 112 overall in a field of 389 finishers, on a bike with no gears fer cryin’ out loud!

112. Rich Dillen / Overall Stage 2 / -02:07:02 down on the winner of the stage, which puts him Overall in 37th place in Masters A -

37. Rich Dillen / Overall Masters A / -02:47:05

Day 3, Rich is currently still in 37th place overall, after managing 42nd in todays stage which looked just a little bit on the wet side.
